John Proctor: Hero or Stooge?

John Proctor was introduced early into the play. Many people in Salem look to him as a reasonable and sensible man that keeps his wits in even the hardest of times. The reader quickly learns about the adultery John had done with Abigail. Later we see John have his loyalty put to the test as he talks with Abigail in private. Despite her begging of John to admit he loved her, he sticks to his wits, not letting him be persuaded.

When John gets arrested he admits he committed adultery which saves several innocent people from being hung. His sacrificed proved to the town that despite what he had done, he was still willing to be the sensible man everyone knew him to be by saving people and admitting his mistakes. Although this dirtied his name, he saved several people making it worth the effort.  Despite some of the bad things he did, including the lack of religion in his house, his sacrifice made up for it.

There Goes The Neighborhood

In the later 1600s to the late 1700s the colonization of the Americas were beginning to move west. Before the Revolution occurred many colonists were taking advantage of the wilderness to try to find rare resources and explore. This caused anger among the Indians because they felt as though they were being invaded and taken advantage of. Earlier, before the French had been defeated by the British, the Indians didn't mind colonization because it improved trade. However, once the French lost the war, a wave of British flooded in to explore the once French controlled area. This didn't settle well with the Indians because the British were farmers, which meant flattening and stripping the land of its natural traits. A good example of their anger to this was the Pontiac Rebellion where several tribes banded together and used physical means of removing the invaders. Although peace was made, the Indian's land was still being colonized. Their sacred land that meant so much to them in life style and beliefs was being ruined, hence them looking at colonizers more as invaders and thieves.

About me

Hello, my name is Gabriel and I live in Chicago, Illinois. I was an academic center student for seventh and eight grade, and I am now entering freshman year. I like to hangout with my friends both in and out of school. I enjoy playing soccer and running on the cross country team. This Saturday will be our first meet of the season. I used to be a horrible runner, but all of the practice has helped me improve. I live in a high rise downtown with my 2 parents. My mom is from Mexico and my dad is American.

When I was younger I would travel to mexico almost once every year to visit my family, most of whom lived in Mexico City. My favorite class is probably chemistry because it is fun and interesting. I just recently started to play guitar as an elective having not played for about 6 years. Over the summer I went to Italy and France for 2 weeks, which was filled with new things an experiences then I am used to in the US. Following the trip, when I got back I went to a sailing camp and learned how to sail. Although we used small boats, I still had a great time and and hope to go again next year. Although there is still so much more in my life to write about, these are the most recent events worth writing about.
