Jaine

The story is mainly about Jaine finding herself. This can be seen in the amount of relationships she goes through. She isn't happy in any of them and so continues on, trying to find one to fit her.Through these relationships she learns more about herself. Finally when she meets Tea Cake it seems to be that she finally found her identity. However, until it is found out what had happened to tea cake, she may still be searching for herself. Jaine hated how Nanny had controlled her and kept her from doing what she wanted. This could be a source of her need to find herself and restless relationships. In both relationships she had left, she did not like the way she was treated. On her journey to find herself, more about her and Zora Hurston is revealed because Jaine is ment to represent her.
